ASHG Human Genetics Scholars Initiative
Background
The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) Office of Acquisition (OA) on behalf of the National Human Genome Research Institute, (NHGRI), intends to negotiate and award a purchase order on a non-competitive sole source basis without providing for full and open competition to American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG), 9650 Rockville Pike, Bethesda, Maryland 20814-3999. The National Institutes of Health, National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) is dedicated to cultivating a diverse pool of future researchers, healthcare providers, and educators. NHGRI has supported training and workforce development programs with a core commitment to maximize the diversity of the biomedical workforce.
NHGRI is seeking an organization that will work collaboratively to promote diversity and inclusion within the field of human genetics/genomics with a specific focus on supporting early career researchers. The American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG) also recognizes there is a great need to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in the human genetics and genomics research workforce—a need reinforced by many studies of the larger research community and experience within human genetics.

Work Details
The ASHG Human Genetics Scholars Initiative (HGSI) aims to advance workforce diversity and inclusion in the field by identifying, mentoring, and helping to prepare a select, diverse cohort of high-potential, diverse early-career individuals for professional success. It also focuses on developing and sustaining a community of researchers across generations committed to workforce diversity and inclusion. The initiative seeks to welcome and include individuals from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups; individuals with disabilities; and individuals from socially, culturally, economically, or educationally disadvantaged backgrounds.

Period of Performance
This will be a base year and three option years, each lasting 12 months.

Place of Performance
Work shall be performed at the Contractor’s site.
