This project provides repair for five basement columns in the Altmeyer Building at SSA Headquarters in Woodlawn, Maryland.

Two of these columns have shown visual signs of deterioration and were temporarily stabilized using confinement straps in a prior project. The columns are surrounded by various utilities which are crucial for the central steam utility plant, which provides heat to the SSA's Woodlawn Campus.

This project involves repairing and strengthening the columns in sections and adding jackets to prevent future corrosion. The repair process includes using shoring during construction to support the columns, ensuring safe repairs by attaching the shoring to the upper part of the basement columns.

To carry out structural repairs, all utilities within ten feet above the existing slab and three feet beyond each of the four column faces will be either demolished, relocated, removed and reinstalled, or permanently relocated. A similar approach will be applied to utilities within approximately two feet of each face of the column, up to the boiler room ceiling.

Impacted utilities include boiler feedwater, high and low-pressure steam, the deaerator system and tank, condensate return system and tank, two boilers, critical electrical conduit, fire alarm, sprinkler piping, boiler controls, natural gas piping, access platforms, ladders, catwalks, and storm piping.

EDIT 12/7/2023: A Pre-Proposal Walkthrough has been scheduled for December 19, 2023 at 10:00 AM. Any contractors whom wish to participate are required to submit the attached Form 306. The meeting will be held at the SSA Altmeyer Building located at 6401 Security Boulevard Woodlawn, MD 21235.

The forms should be protected with a password (either by protecting the PDF itself or by adding it to a WinZip archive with a password), with the password sent in a separate email. Multiple forms can be added to the same WinZip file.
