Description

The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base has a requirement for a Gas Fired Air Heater.

This is a Sources Sought (SS). This is not a presolicitation or Request for Quote (RFQ) and is not to be construed as any commitment by the Government. This notice does not obligate the Government to award a contract and or pay for any quote preparation costs. The Government will not accept quotes at this time. This notice is not an offer by the Government to enter into a contract. Interested Small Business concerns must identify to the contracting officer their interest and capability to satisfy the Government's requirement by closing date listed. Responses will allow the Government to conduct an initial review of market capabilities in support of requirements identified in the Draft Minimum Requirements Document.

SUBMISSION DETAILS: All interested parties are encouraged to submit a response to this Sources Sought. Responses will be accepted until 21 May 2026 at 10 AM Eastern Time and should address the following questions:

1. Company name, cage code, address, point of contact, phone number, and email address

2. Identification of whether the company is currently designated as a Small Business as defined in FAR Part 19.1 and the appropriate category (e.g., 8(a), HubZone, etc.).

3. Company description of relevant capability and experience to provide supplies/services in accordance with the minimum requirements.

Be advised that all correspondence sent via e-mail shall contain a subject line that reads Gas Fired Air Heater. Background
The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base requires a Gas Fired Air Heater to support their research needs. The current gas fired heater has reached the end of its service life and needs replacement to deliver the necessary air temperature for completing Air Force research missions.

The AFRL focuses on simulating altitude and velocity of propulsion systems designed for Air Force platforms.

Work Details
The contract involves obtaining a gas fired air heater with the following specifications:
1. Heater-burner package must include an integral forced draft burner, coils, heater trim, refractory, insulation, controls, fuel train, and accessory components.
2. The package should be fully assembled and ready for ground mounting with connections to process air intake/discharge, plant compressed air, electrical, natural gas, vent, and control lines.
3. Design must allow accessibility for maintenance and service.
4. Compliance with NFPA 85 is required.
5. Designed for a working pressure of 500 psig and maximum operating pressure of 750 psig.
6. Capable of continuously producing heated compressed air at:
a. Output Process Air Inlet Temperature: 100 degrees F
b. Output Process Air Inlet Flow Range: 2.5-34 lbm/sec
c. Maximum Process Air Discharge Temperature Range: 250 - 1250 degrees F
d. Maximum Heater Operation Period: up to 16 hours continuously.
7. Must operate daily and after up to 30 days of inactivity without damage.
8. Suitable for outdoor installation with weather and corrosion protection for a reliable service life over 25 years, considering exposure to salt spray from an active roadway.
9. Must provide safe and stable operation under extreme outdoor temperatures based on historical weather data from the past 30 years.
