Acquisition of Services for the Young At Heart Type 2 Diabetes Research Longitudinal Protocol

Background
The contract is issued by the Children's National Hospital (CNH) in collaboration with the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK). The mission of this contract is to support research on youth-onset type 2 diabetes (T2D), a rapidly progressive disease associated with early complications. The goal is to investigate metabolic mechanisms of diabetes risk and management in youth and young adults, particularly focusing on cardiovascular disease risk linked to insulin resistance.

Work Details
The contractor will support protocol development, research implementation, and participant recruitment for the joint CNH/NIDDK Y-T2DM program. Key tasks include:
1) Addressing diabetes disparities in youth and young adults with T2DM by understanding the mechanisms of action of diabetes agents and cardiovascular risk for precision medicine initiatives.
2) Providing pediatric care in the metropolitan Washington, D.C. area, utilizing freestanding children’s hospitals between Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Norfolk, and Atlanta.
3) Leveraging the expertise of investigators from NIDDK and CNH to reduce diabetes-related risks.
4) Ensuring all research activities are approved by institutional boards prior to commencement. Additionally, under Task Area 1 - Reporting, the contractor must provide results from research findings to the Program Officer within 7-14 days and coordinate research services with the Project Officer.

Place of Performance
The services will be performed primarily at Children's National Hospital in Washington, D.C., with potential outreach to other locations including Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Norfolk, and Atlanta.
