Description

This effort will deploy 3 prototypes of a system developed under a previous Office of Naval Research (ONR) grant, Portable Auditory Localization Acclimation-Test (PALAT) N000141712595, to get user feedback, collect data, and evaluate training effectiveness of the system. In terms of Naval relevance and contribution, the warfighters are exposed to continuous, hazardous noise levels. Wearing adequate hearing protection devices are important to the prevention of hearing loss and auditory injuries, but that approach can impede situational awareness and sound localization. The PALAT system was designed to be a portable, field usable system for sound localization training of an individual with or without hearing protection.
