Description

The Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA) - CC
Background
The Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA) was initiated to study the correlates, predictors, and progression of subclinical cardiovascular disease (CVD) in a diverse population-based sample of men and women aged 45-84 who had no evidence of clinical CVD at baseline. The study is unique in its composition of four ethnic groups, having a cohort free of clinical CVD at baseline, and having multiple subclinical CVD measures over time in the same individuals. The study aims to address new questions about the development of clinical CVD and related conditions.

Work Details
The tasks include biannual follow-up of cohort members, clinical endpoints ascertainment, study coordination activities, geocoding activities, data analysis, manuscript writing, maintenance of database(s) and biospecimen repository. Additionally, there are limited examinations (Exam 8 and Exam 9), study closeout or transfer to a new entity, and NIH diversity supplements to support research opportunities among students and early career investigators from underrepresented groups. Technical requirements include performing transition activities, complying with NIH single Institutional Review Board requirements, implementing and maintaining a web-based data collection system for use by all MESA centers, enabling and facilitating biannual follow-up contacts of participants by field centers, abstraction of data from medical records for expert review of clinical events, updating geocoded data derived from participant addresses provided by the Field Centers, coordinating location-based research through geocoding data, establishing and maintaining study databases including images and genetic data sets for release through designated databases such as dbGaP or BioData Catalyst.

Period of Performance
The estimated period of performance is December 19, 2024 to December 18, 2034 with multiple option periods for specific tasks.
