The Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA) - CC
Background
The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) is seeking a Coordinating Center (CC) for a ten (10)-year program entitled “Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA)”. The purpose of this announcement is to provide a Presolicitation Notice for the release of Solicitation MESA -CC-75N92023R0220. The Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis was initiated to study the correlates, predictors, and progression of subclinical cardiovascular disease (CVD) in a diverse population-based sample of men and women aged 45-84 who had no evidence of clinical CVD at baseline. Participants were examined at baseline for evidence of subclinical CVD using various diagnostic methods and additional components such as spirometry, retinal photography, genotyping, cognitive function assessment, and more were introduced over subsequent examinations through 2018.

Work Details
The Coordinating Center is expected to fulfill various tasks including performing activities related to contract transition from the previous contractor if needed, complying with NIH single Institutional Review Board requirements, enabling and facilitating biannual follow-up contacts of participants by field centers, performing abstraction of data from medical records for expert review of clinical events, updating geocoded data derived from participant addresses provided by the Field Centers, coordinating and managing an annual meeting for the NHLBI-appointed Observational Studies Monitoring Board, establishing and maintaining study databases, conducting statistical analyses, preparing technical and financial reports, working cooperatively with all study investigators and staff,
providing research training experiences via NIH Diversity Supplements,
mentoring early stage investigators from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups,
individuals with disabilities,
and individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds.
