Background
The Jackson Heart Study (JHS) is a long-term research project initiated in 1999, aimed at understanding the factors contributing to cardiovascular disease (CVD) among African Americans. The National Institutes of Health (NIH), specifically the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), is issuing this contract for the renewal of the JHS Field Center to continue its mission of addressing the increased risk factors, adverse socioeconomics, and other determinants of CVD in this population.

The goal of the contract is to foster scientific collaborations, enhance local research capacity in Jackson, MS, and disseminate findings to both scientific and lay communities.

Work Details
The contractor will be responsible for providing all necessary services, qualified personnel, materials, equipment, and facilities required to perform the following tasks:

1. Investigate factors contributing to high CVD burden in African Americans focusing on aging-related issues such as ventricular dysfunction and cognitive decline.
2. Assess CVD risk factors in young adult African Americans with emphasis on health behaviors and social determinants.
3. Conduct cohort follow-up and clinical events ascertainment activities.
4. Perform clinic examinations of JHS participants to facilitate ancillary studies.
5. Produce and disseminate research findings effectively to various communities.
