Background
The Jackson Heart Study (JHS), initiated in 1998, is a longitudinal investigation focused on cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors in African-Americans. The study aims to promote healthy lifestyles and reduce disease risk through community education and outreach, as well as training programs for underrepresented minority students in biomedical careers.

JHS has recruited over 5,300 participants from the Jackson, MS metropolitan area and has produced extensive data on CVD risk factors and health outcomes, contributing to over 880 publications by August 2023.

Work Details
The contractor will be responsible for several key tasks:
1. Conduct core study operations including participant follow-up every 6 months for the Legacy cohort and annually for the Young Adult cohort.
2. Coordinate morbidity and mortality ascertainment by contacting participants to update health status and obtain hospitalization records.
3. If deemed necessary by NHLBI, coordinate planning and conduct Exam 5 for the Legacy cohort between 2025-2030, targeting approximately 70% participation.
4. Recruit and perform baseline clinical examinations for the Young Adult cohort from 2028-2034, aiming to recruit about 3,000 participants aged 18-54.
5. Mentor early career investigators through diversity supplements related to cardiovascular epidemiology research.
6. Prepare scientific abstracts and manuscripts based on study findings, ensuring compliance with data sharing policies.

Period of Performance
The contract period is estimated from August 13, 2025, to August 12, 2035, covering various task areas including core operations, exams for both cohorts, mentoring activities, and study closeout.

Place of Performance
The contract will be performed primarily in Jackson, Mississippi.
