Description

Hispanic Community Health Study - Study of Latinos Field Center
Background
The Division of Cardiovascular Sciences of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), National Institutes of Health (NIH), is conducting a market survey to assess the availability and potential technical capability of small business firms to perform as the Research Coordinating Center as part of the renewal of the program entitled, “Hispanic Community Health Study/Study of Latinos.” NHLBI plans to support one (1) Coordinating Center and four (4) Field Centers. It is anticipated that one award will be made in December 2024 for a period of eight (8) years.
The Hispanic Community Health Study – Study of Latinos (HCHS/SOL) is a multicenter, longitudinal epidemiological study of Hispanic/Latino health that began in 2006 in four US communities (Bronx, NY, Chicago, IL, Miami, FL, and San Diego, CA). The original cohort (n=16415) was selected to represent Hispanic/Latino populations, ages 18-74 years, whose roots include Cuban, Central American, Dominican, Mexican, Puerto Rican and South American heritage groups.

Work Details
The scientific objectives of this solicitation are to enhance statistical power to perform analyses of predictors of clinical events, particularly in informative subgroups; study the progression of subclinical to clinical CVD; identify new risk factors or interactions among factors that inform disease pathophysiology. The operational goals are to conduct continued cohort follow-up and data collection on clinical events; continue to foster scientific collaborations; and conduct limited clinical examinations of the HCHS/SOL participants as a platform for ancillary study examination components.
The important overall technical requirements associated with this acquisition for HCHS/SOL include conducting regular follow-up contacts of participants; investigating participants' self-reported clinical events by collecting supporting medical records; conducting re-examinations of HCHS/SOL participants; participating in Steering Committee and appropriate subcommittee meetings; conducting statistical analyses and preparing scientific abstracts and manuscripts for presentations and publications; preparing and submitting technical and financial reports; performing activities related to study closeout as directed by the NHLBI Project Office; working cooperatively with all study investigators and staff, the NHLBI Project Office, and any subcontractors and consultants in all relevant aspects of the study; mentoring early stage investigators from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups, individuals with disabilities, and individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds by providing formal training opportunities for junior or inexperienced investigators through diversity supplements.
