Description

Hispanic Community Health Study - Study of Latinos - Coordinating Center
Background
The Division of Cardiovascular Sciences of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), National Institutes of Health (NIH), is conducting a market survey to assess the availability and potential technical capability of small business firms to perform as the Research Coordinating Center as part of the renewal of the program entitled, “Hispanic Community Health Study/Study of Latinos.” NHLBI plans to support one (1) Coordinating Center and four (4) Field Centers. It is anticipated that one award will be made in December 2024 for a period of eight (8) years. The Hispanic Community Health Study/Study of Latinos (HCHS/SOL) is a multicenter, longitudinal epidemiological study of Hispanic/Latino health that began in 2006 in four US communities (Bronx, NY, Chicago, IL, Miami, FL, and San Diego, CA). The original cohort (n=16415) was selected to represent Hispanic/Latino populations, ages 18-74 years, whose roots include Cuban, Central American, Dominican, Mexican, Puerto Rican and South American heritage groups.

Work Details
The scientific objectives of this solicitation are to enhance statistical power to perform analyses of predictors of clinical events; study the progression of subclinical to clinical CVD; identify new risk factors or interactions among factors that inform disease pathophysiology.

The important overall technical requirements associated with this acquisition for HCHS/SOL include developing and maintaining a web-based data collection system for regular follow-up contacts of participants by field centers; abstraction of data from medical records and expert review of clinical events by field centers; support a re-examination of HCHS/SOL participants including developing and maintaining a data collection system for a planned Visit 4; designing and implementing appropriate quality assurance and quality control programs; performing administrative, operational, and technical duties to support productive collaboration among the study personnel at all HCHS/SOL centers; establishing and managing study databases; establishing and managing a biological specimen repository; coordinating and participating collaboratively in study committees; conducting statistical analyses and preparing scientific publications and presentations.
