Background
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), specifically the Geology, Geophysics, and Geochemistry Science Center (GGGSC), requires new equipment to replace outdated preparation tools to support its mission of processing approximately 30,000 samples annually for chemical analyses.

The goal of this contract is to procure SM-200 Enclosed Shatterboxes and High Energy Ball Mills that meet specific operational requirements.

Work Details
The contract includes the following items:
1) SM-200 Enclosed Shatterbox (3 units)
- Must grind rocks, sediments, soils, minerals, and/or ores to 74 microns or less
- Dimensions: ≤ 19”W x 19”D x 40”H
- Electrical: 3 prong 115V/60Hz plug
- Maximum RPM: 800
- Motor: 1/3 HP
- Weight: ≤ 250 lbs
- Features: electronic timer, push-button membrane switch, cam-activated clamp, soundproof enclosure, lockable caster wheels, safety interlock system
- Capacity: Grind 2-150 grams at a time using alumina ceramic containers.

2) High Energy Ball Mill (3 units)
- Must grind rocks, sediments, soils, minerals, and/or ores to 74 microns or less
- Dimensions: ≤ 25”W x 21”D x 21”H
- Electrical: 3 prong 115V/60Hz plug
- Maximum RPM: 1725
- Motor: 1/3 HP with dual-clamp grinders and two grinding stations
- Features: programmable timer and safety interlock that stops motor if lid is opened during operation.
- Capacity: Grind up to 10 grams in each container or mix up to 50 mL of sample using alumina oxide grinding containers and balls.

3) Shipping and Freight services.

Government Description:
1) This Solicitation Notice is to announce the USGS, The Geology, Geophysics, and Geochemistry Science Center (GGGSC) has a need for SM-200 Enclosed Shatterboxes to support mission.
2) The solicitation number is 140G0226Q0175 and is being issued as a Request for Quote (RFQ).
3) Award for this requirement will be made in accordance with the policies of FAR Part 12, Acquisition of Commercial Products and Commercial Services, along with applicable solicitation and evaluation procedures for this acquisition. The Government will make award to the lowest-priced, technically acceptable (LPTA) offeror.
Quotes will be evaluated starting with the lowest price. If the lowest-priced quote is determined to be technically unacceptable, the Government will proceed to evaluate the next lowest-priced quote, and so on, until a technically acceptable offer is identified.
4) This solicitation is a SET ASIDE for Small Businesses. The associated NAICS Code is 334516 - Analytical Laboratory Instrument Manufacturing.
5) All requirements for preparation, submission, and receipt of quotes are contained in this solicitation and shall be adhered to.
6) All questions and quote must be emailed to the Contracting Officer, Janice Moye at Janice_Moye@ios.doi.gov.
