Description

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is conducting market research to determine the availability of qualified businesses capable of providing infrasound acoustic monitors as described in the required specifications attached. This sources sought announcement is not a request for quote or proposal and the Government is not committed to award of a purchase order or contract pursuant to this announcement. The information resulting from this market research is simply for planning purposes to assist the Government in determining its acquisition strategy. The Government will not pay for any costs incurred in the preparation of information for responding to this notice.

Background
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is conducting market research to identify qualified businesses capable of providing infrasound acoustic monitors for volcano monitoring. This initiative aims to assist the Government in determining its acquisition strategy and is not a request for quotes or proposals.

Work Details
The USGS Volcano Science Center requires infrasound acoustic monitors that meet the following specifications:

- Delivery by September 30, 2026.
- Individual sensor calibration must be within ±5% of acceptable nominal values, traceable to a nationally accredited external laboratory calibration chamber.
- Sensors must be in current production with an established performance history; modifications solely for this acquisition are not acceptable.

Signal Characteristics:
- Nominal Sensitivity: or greater.
- Full Scale Range: 720Pa peak to peak or greater.

Sensor Output Specifications:
- Output type: Differential.
- Maximum signal output: 20VPP.

Operational frequency band and self-noise:

Power requirements:
- DC supply range: 11.5V to 18V or wider with reverse polarity protection.
- DC current consumption: 150mW or less.

Physical Characteristics:
- Diameter: 4” or smaller; Height: 3.5” or shorter; Minimum three acoustic entry points; Operating temperature range: -40C to +65C; Humidity tolerance of 90% or greater; Housing must be corrosion resistant and isolated from ground.

Delivery must be completed by September 30, 2026.
