Background
The contract is issued by the Department of Defense (DoD) for the procurement of 5.56mm Long Range Ammunition, specifically the MK262 MOD 1 cartridge. This ammunition was developed for use with the MK 12 Special Purpose Rifle (SPR) and has been utilized by United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) forces since shortly after September 11, 2001. The MK262 cartridge is also approved for use by the US Marine Corps and several NATO foreign military forces.
