INTENT TO SOLE SOURCE Upgrade of A-Frame Auto Picker for the Lancaster(Dallas) Consolidated Mail Outpatient Pharmacy   3

SPECIAL NOTICE OF INTENT TO AWARD A SOLE SOURCE PROCUREMENT. This Notice is to announce that the Department of Veteran Affairs, Consolidated Mail-Out Phamacy(CMOP) located in Lancaster (Dallas) Tx., is proposing to negotiate a firm fixed price, sole source contract, IAW 41 U.S. Code 3304(a)(1), with KNAPP, Inc., for the upgrade of the A-Frame Auto Picker subsystem. The A-Frame Auto Picker is one of the subsystems that make up the current Automated Pharmacy Fulfillment System(APFS) configuration currently in operation at the Lancaster CMOP which KNAPP, Inc. manufactured. The current overall APFS consists of several subsystems which includes: IPD TCA (includes ATD) A-Frame Auto Picker The tote line Packing area Labeling area Pharmacist Verification area The A-Frame Auto Picker subsystem upgrade will provide for the changeout of; All SDA Ejectors A complete replacement of the high speed induction Unit(BBU) SDA Control software to the newest version The conveyor central belt plus components This upgrade is needed due to age of the system and limitations on part availability for repairs. The upgrade is expected to extend the systems operability another 5-7 years while funds are secured to implement the change out of the entire system. Because the Lancaster CMOP provides support through the mailout of 80,000 prescriptions to Veterans daily, it is critical that the rest of the system remain operational during the performance of the upgrade of the A frame Auto picker subsystem.
