Description
Project proposes to repair Ammunition Wharves W3 and Wl by strengthening existing bearing piles, adding new bearing piles, retaining part of the existing fender pile system, and replacing the deck to create wharves built to current standards. The project will be divided two phases with W3 in fiscal year FY22 and Wl in FY23. The wharves shall meet the requirements of Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) 4-152-01, 11 Design: Piers and Wharves. 11 The wharf structure will be able to support a uniform live load of 600 psf as well as the unrestricted movement of 90-ton mobile truck cranes with maximum outrigger loads limited to 80 tons. Scope of work for each phase is identical. Scope includes demolition of the existing wharf deck. A portion of the existing bearing piles will be repaired and new bearing piles will be installed to accommodate the greater design load A portion of the existing fender system, consisting of pre-cast concrete piles and plastic wales and chocks, will be replaced. Sheet piling will be installed inboard of the wharf structure. The project will also include the reconstruction of wastewater and potable water utility systems, phone lines and grounding system for lightning protection. Utilities will be placed into a utility trench built into the wharf deck. Permanent oil spill containment boom, safety ladders, life ring cabinets, fire alarm system and mooring hardware will be installed.
