REPLACE NH159/SA SUBSTATION, PRIMARY NSA HR POWER NODE

Type: Forecast

Overview

Description
This project will replace the existing SA substation with a modernized equipment and designed for redundancy. The project will replace the 54 year old, unreliable substation transformer with a new 20MVA, 34.5kV 11.5kV Substation transformer. The existing outgoing metal-clad switchgear will be replaced with dead-front, metal-clad, draw-out, switchgear assembly of vertical sections, each with 15 kV vacuum circuit breakers. The station grounding resistor will also be replaced with a new one. The project includes the installation of a new 35kV (SF6) 4-way switch that will add redundancy to SA Substation. Currently, SA is feed from the Navy South Switching Station circuit 15 (NS15). If this circuit goes down it will take several hours to reconfigure the distribution system to pick SA's load. But with the new switch, SA Substation will have access to another Navy South circuit. If the primary feeder (NS15) goes down, power to SA Substation can be restored in less than an hour due to the addition of this 4-way switch. The project will include the salvage, demolition and removal of existing equipment.
