Description
NASA faces a credible risk of losing critical space-to-ground communications for key on-orbit missions beginning in 2029 2031 as the aging TDRS constellation degrades and no commercial services provide backward-compatible legacy interfaces. Project NEXUS will competitively acquire and on-orbit demonstrate a persistent, backward-compatible Ka-band relay capability that sustains legacy mission continuity while enabling transition to commercially provided services through phased demonstrations and progressive downselects.
