NEXRAD RPG Router Refresh

The NEXRAD Radar Product Generator (RPG) contains a Cisco 4431 router. The RPG router is a critical device which handles all communications to and from the radar. This router disseminates all radar data to meteorologists to assist in forecasts, watches, and warnings. This device also acts as the primary network border security for the radar. This router is obsolete; meaning as failures occur there will no longer be support from Cisco or the ability to repair or replace the hardware. By not being able to patch security vulnerabilities the network is at risk. Also, as the hardware continues to age and break, it cannot be repaired or replaced which would cause long downtimes with no access. The Government has a requirement to purchase the Cisco Catalyst 8300-1N1S-6T routers to replace these obsolete routers in the fleet.
