IT Development and Maintenance

The Ocean Sciences Division, NRL Code 7300, Center for Geospatial Sciences (CGS), Code 7340 requires IT support in its software, hardware, and cybersecurity infrastructure. The NRL CGS utilizes a broad array of computing hardware and software to accomplish sponsor-funded research goals. There are roughly 150 individuals in the CGS performing research on nearly 700 systems, both physical and virtualized. Current hardware includes desktops and workstations, hosting servers and database systems, portable electronic devices (e.g., smart phones), printers and scanners, local and wide area network equipment (e.g. Layer 2/3 Switches, Firewalls, load balancers, etc.), and virtualized systems. Major software products supported on these systems include (but are not limited to) Windows, Mac OSX, and Linux operating systems; various Microsoft enterprise systems, various calendaring and scheduling systems, Anti-Virus/Firewall system server, Adobe products, various scientific and data analysis applications, as well as internally developed Government-Off-The-Shelf (GOTS) applications. The IT infrastructure must continually evolve and improve as new technologies become available and as new computing requirements are developed.
