Overview

Description
Presently Wallops Island is fed by two 13 MVA capacity underground circuits from Wallops Mainland area (2 miles). Electrical demand is expected to grow from the present demand of about 4 MW to nearly 14 MW over the next five years, mostly due to growth in Navy mission projects (7MW) and NASA initiatives (3.3 MW). Since two thirds of the growth is Navy centric, NASA has requested that the Navy install a third electrical feeder to increase system capacity. Existing electrical demand is approximately 3 MW (Navy) plus 1.2 MW (combined NASA and Mid Atlantic Spaceport (MARS)). Projected mission growth is expected to exceed the capacity of one feeder by the year 2023 and includes nearly 7 MW additional demand from Navy initiatives (NAVAIR Coyote; Aegis
