Overview
Description
The Crow Indian Reservation was struck by severe storms and straight-line winds on August 6, 2024. With wind gusts reaching 78 mph, the storm caused extensive damage to homes and displaced many families, exacerbating an already critical housing shortage within the tribal community. On November 14, 2024, the Crow Tribe of Montana received a Major Disaster Declaration designating Individual Assistance for the Crow Indian Reservation. Section 408(c)(4) of the Stafford Act authorizes Federal Emergency Management Agency to provide financial or direct assistance for Permanent Housing Construction in insular areas and other locations in cases in which no alternative housing resources are available, and temporary housing assistance is unavailable, infeasible, or not cost-effective. On June 16, 2025, Federal Emergency Management Agency approved Permanent Housing Construction Repair and Permanent Housing Construction Replacement. The Federal Emergency Management Agency approved the business case for both forms of assistance on July 31, 2025.
