Overview
Description
This procurement addresses the operation of the CISS PSU Operations Center and the Primary Sampling Units (PSUs). These seventy-three (73) PSUs collect and classify approximately 500,000 police crash reports each year and perform in-depth investigations on approximately 10,000 nationally representative crashes. CISS PSU Operations personnel inspect crash sites and document physical evidence with electronic measurement devices that ultimately produce scaled scene diagrams. Crash-involved vehicles are inspected, and assessments are made regarding exterior vehicle damage (including event data recorder imaging) and interior compartment and safety systems performance. Crash victims are also interviewed, and their injury information collected. The data gathered by the CISS PSUs is used by NHTSA and others for a variety of purposes
