The CBP Workforce Care Directorate (WCD) has a requirement to continue promoting a positive work environment for all CBP employees and deliver employee services and benefits that facilitate workforce effectiveness. According to the National Institutes of Health, law enforcement professionals, "experience high levels of job-related stress, frequently attributed to shift work, the potential for witnessing or experiencing violent events, and organizational pressure." The effects of increased stress can lead to cardiovascular issues, sleep disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, depression, and more. More than ever before, CBP employees seek employer-supported programs and resources to help alleviate workplace and personal issues. In response to the need for increased employer supported programs, CBP opened a regional wellness center (holistic health support center) in El Paso, TX. The wellness center in El Paso has been well-received. Therefore, CBP is seeking to continue this type of employer-supported program by putting in place additional holistic health support centers.
