Bldg. 122 - CUSTFUND - Window Tinting Required for Classrooms/Office

Type: Forecast

Overview

Description
Funding Source: SWESC FY Requested: 26 Estimated Cost: TBD Barracks/UH? No P&E Needed? Yes Project Details/SOW: Windows in Bldg. 122 are exposed to much sunlight, resulting in excessive glare, making viewing of computer screens difficult. With this, temperatures also rise to uncomfortable levels within the space. Window Tinting (as opposed to blinds) is to be applied for reducing glare and high temperatures. EV: If L84, conduct NEPA review. HMR 6/27/25. EV Natural Resources: Tinting may increase reflectivity on the outside of the windows and may increase bird collisions with the windows. Suggest installing low reflectivity window film, UV reflective film (birds see in the UV range), or graphic film that will allows birds to better perceive the windows. Recommend following USFWS Best Management Practices and Low-Cost Methods to Reduce Bird Collisions with Glass https://www.fws.gov/sites/default/files/documents/low-cost-methods-to-reduce-bird-collisions-with-glass.pdf CRM Comments: B122 is not historic, but is directly adjacent to the historic district. Window tint could affect the historic district view shed. Please provide NSGL CRM with a copy of the specs/ product data for the proposed window tint. RPM Comments: Approved.
