Fuel tanks and piping need to be replaced/ Repaired.
Gasoline tank has holes around suction piping that have been temporarily repaired and are leaking.
Diesel tank #2 has developed multiple leaks. Currently the tank is leaking into the void, and the void is leaking on to the ground.
Diesel tank #1 is just as old and has the potential to develop leaks in the near future.
All the external steel piping is rusting away and is in need of replacement before it starts leaking.
Some of the leak detectors are no longer working and system needs to be fixed/updated.
The leaking tank that is a huge environmental issue, the fuel tanks are roughly 10' from the shoreline.
These fuel tanks provide fuel for over 9 47' Motor lifeboats between Station Cape Disappointment and the NMLBS, the gasoline provides gas for 2 29' RBS's. It is crucial to have two operational diesel fuel tanks and one gasoline tank to maintain the quality and quantity of fuel that is required to keep all these boats operational. Station Cape Disappointment in combination with the NMLBS goes through on average 800 gallons of diesel a week.
