University Research Initiatives

The University Research Initiatives program, part of the Army's Research, Development, Test & Evaluation activities, supports several key research initiatives. It includes the Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative (MURI), the Defense University Research Instrumentation Program (DURIP), and the Presidential Early Career Awards for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE). MURI focuses on university-based basic research across various scientific and engineering disciplines crucial for technological superiority in land combat. By fostering collaboration among researchers from different universities and disciplines, MURI aims to accelerate research progress and facilitate the transition of findings into practical applications.

DURIP enhances research capabilities by providing resources for acquiring major research equipment. By funding single-investigator research efforts, PECASE fosters innovation and excellence in academic research at an early stage in researchers' careers.
