Description
The Theater Air Control System Improvement program, managed by the Air Force, aims to enhance the capabilities of the Control and Reporting Center (CRC). This system is a mobile, ground-based theater air control system that provides surveillance and battle management command and control at the tactical level. Its primary goal is to support air and surface operations by offering direct command and control to all air assets within an assigned Area of Responsibility. The CRC comprises various components, including the AN/TYQ-23A(V)1 Tactical Air Operations Module, AN/TSC-250 Communication Data Link System, AN/TRC-213/214 Remote Radio Secure Voice System, and the AN/TPS-75 Radar.
The program's objectives include modernizing these components through phased updates until 2037. For Fiscal Year 2025, efforts focus on producing AN/TRC-214 (V)2 radio units and modifying AN-TRC 213 (V)3 interface units. Additionally, Agile and Flexible Communication Packages will be procured to standardize deployable data flows while incorporating modern Advanced Battle Management System standards. These improvements are part of a broader CRC Modernization initiative designed to ensure that the system remains effective in supporting both active and reserve components for homeland defense missions.
The Air Combat Command's CRC Capability Roadmap guides these modernization efforts. The roadmap ensures that updates align with strategic objectives and operational requirements. This initiative supports compliance with Section 1815 of the FY 2008 National Defense Authorization Act, which mandates readiness for domestic emergency responses and military support to civil authorities. Furthermore, this program supports financial audit requirements as outlined in title 10 U.S.C. Chapter 9A, Sec 240-D.
The Theater Air Control System Improvement program reflects a commitment to maintaining robust command and control capabilities for theater air operations. By focusing on incremental upgrades and standardization of communication systems, the program seeks to enhance operational effectiveness while ensuring interoperability with emerging technologies and standards.
