Description
The Tactical Aircraft Directable Infrared Countermeasure (TADIRCM) program, managed by the Department of the Navy, is focused on advancing infrared countermeasures to enhance aircraft survivability. This initiative is vital for the United States Navy and Marine Corps assault aircraft, aiming to bolster their defenses against emerging threats. The program's main goal is to integrate Hostile Fire Indication (HFI) and Laser Warning Sensors with existing aircraft Countermeasures Dispensing Systems (CMDS), thereby improving the aircraft's ability to counter infrared missile threats.

A key component of TADIRCM is the Distributed Aperture Infrared Countermeasures (DAIRCM) system, which is designed to increase the survivability of Navy assault aircraft in complex terrains. The system includes missile warning sensors, processors, and inexhaustible laser countermeasures that interface with Aircraft Survival Equipment (ASE). The UH-1Y helicopter serves as the lead platform for DAIRCM integration, focusing on enhancing laser power and processor capabilities while improving sensor countermeasure features and cyber security measures.

In fiscal year 2025, development and testing of the DAIRCM system will continue, concentrating on government tracking software and under-glass solutions. Ground and flight tests for DAIRCM integration on lead platforms like the UH-1Y helicopter are planned. These efforts will address deficiencies identified during testing phases and further develop modeling and simulation capabilities to effectively counter new threats.

The acquisition strategy for DAIRCM involves a scalable approach that allows for preplanned product improvements to keep pace with evolving threats. This strategy includes leveraging capabilities from Joint Urgent Operational Needs (JUONs) and collaboration between government laboratories and industry partners. Contracts for Engineering Development Models (EDMs) and Production Representative Models (PRMs) are anticipated, with a separate production contract expected by late 2025.
