Description
Strategic Platform Support Equip is a funding line within the Navy's Other Procurement budget activity that supports the replacement of obsolete hardware and software on TRIDENT Class submarines as part of the Obsolete Equipment Replacement (OER) Program. The goal is to replace existing equipment that has become operationally obsolete or is no longer supportable with spare parts, thereby reducing maintenance costs and ensuring operational readiness. The program also aims to utilize Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) technology where feasible, while meeting all technical requirements. Additionally, the funding includes performance of fully integrated system level testing and certification of changes to the TRIDENT Combat systems prior to installation, ensuring that the submarines maintain their operational schedules and mission capabilities.
The specific objectives of Program 2676 include providing Non-Propulsion Electronics equipment for TRIDENT Class submarines as part of the OER Program. This involves engineering upgrades to legacy Combat Control Systems (CCS) to maintain required interface connectivity with other managed subsystems, address obsolescence, and respond to mandated requirement changes such as cybersecurity. The funding supports common platform and CCS engineering efforts, as well as SSBN legacy modernization. It also includes software upgrades to the SSBN Ship Control System to meet data stream redundancy requirements driven by network architecture changes and sonar/fire control modernization. Furthermore, the program is critical for maintaining OHIO Class SSBN operational readiness until the end of service life and supporting the delivery of COLUMBIA Class SSBN replacements by resolving obsolescence issues and upgrading legacy CCS to a common architecture with other submarine classes.
