Description
The Space Test and Training Range Development program is dedicated to enhancing capabilities essential for testing, training, and developing tactics for Space Control systems within the Joint National Space Architecture. This initiative involves the creation, demonstration, and delivery of test assets and specialized equipment necessary to validate and verify the performance of integrated space control systems. It aims to provide a secure and repeatable environment for testing space control mission systems and training operators in realistic scenarios.
A key aspect of this program is the agile incremental development approach used to enhance range capabilities. This includes developing test range assets for both the fixed node Space Range Operations Center at Schriever Space Force Base and a deployable Signal Monitoring Unit. These assets support complex exercises involving the Air Force, Space Force, and joint operations. The Advanced Threat Simulation Environment virtual range is being developed as part of this effort, integrating into a Distributed Mission Architecture that connects cyber, air, and space ranges to prepare operators for real-world threats.
The National Space Test and Training Complex encompasses all space test and training range capabilities, with specific focus areas in Electronic Warfare and Cyber Warfare. The Space Test and Training Range Development program contributes to these efforts by providing capabilities for electronic warfare within this complex. In 2024, efforts under this program were transferred to another project to consolidate activities related to the National Space Test and Training Complex.
Additionally, the program includes necessary civilian pay expenses required to manage and deliver weapon system capabilities. These expenses are in addition to those allocated in other related program elements. The acquisition strategy emphasizes competitive procedures for awarding contracts to maximize efficiency and effectiveness in achieving the program's objectives.
