Description
The Marine Group 5 UAS Series program is designed to enhance the capabilities of the Marine Air Ground Task Force (MAGTF) through the integration of advanced unmanned aircraft systems. This initiative focuses on addressing capability gaps identified in previous assessments, with an emphasis on supporting the Marine Littoral Regiment (MLR) in peer-to-peer conflict scenarios. The program aims to provide stand-off sensing and Command, Control, Communication, and Computers (C4) capabilities, enhancing domain awareness and survivability while expanding sea-control and sea-denial capabilities.
The program involves significant modifications to existing systems. These include the integration of Auto Takeoff capability, Landing Radar Altimeter, GPS Anti-Jam technology, Detect And Avoid System (DAAS), Electronic Warfare (EW) enhancements, and Airborne Network Extension (ANE)/SkyTower II systems. These upgrades are intended to improve mission capability by ensuring safety, reliability, increased service life, and enhanced operational effectiveness. The modifications are aligned with the USAF configuration to achieve cost savings in operation and sustainment.
Additionally, the program includes the procurement of Government Furnished Equipment (GFE) to support Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA). This involves acquiring critical hardware and electronic components necessary for precision ground wide area search and surveillance of maritime and ground moving targets. The integration of Proliferated Low Earth Orbit (PLEO) systems further supports aircraft command and control as well as data dissemination capabilities.
The Marine Group 5 UAS Series program is a comprehensive effort to modernize unmanned aircraft systems for enhanced operational readiness. It encompasses various aspects such as engineering assessments, system integration, training support, and logistics elements to ensure that these advanced capabilities meet Initial Operational Capability by FY 2026.
