Machine Gun, Cal .50 M2 Roll

GB2000 Machine Gun, Cal .50 M2 Roll, is a procurement program under the Army's budget activity for Weapons and Other Combat Vehicles. The specific goal of this program is to procure and field the M2A1 .50 Caliber Machine Gun, which is an automatic, belt-fed, recoil-operated, and air-cooled crew-served weapon. The objectives include enhancing the Soldier's capability to quickly change barrels without resetting the headspace and timing while also reducing the visible muzzle flash. Additionally, the program aims to provide automatic weapon suppressive fire for offensive and defensive purposes, serving as an anti-personnel and anti-aircraft weapon that is highly effective against light armored vehicles, low-and slow-flying aircraft, and small boats.

The FY 2024 base procurement dollars in the amount of $3.399 million support the conversion of approximately 1,600 legacy M2 and M48 machine guns to the modern M2A1 model for fielding. The variability in the condition, type, and availability of serviceable weapons to be converted will drive the unit cost of each conversion. This conversion work is performed at Anniston Army Depot (Anniston, AL). Furthermore, in accordance with Section 1815 of the FY 2008 National Defense Authorization Act (P.L. 110-181), this item is necessary for use by the active and reserve components of the Armed Forces for homeland defense missions, domestic emergency responses, and providing military support to civil authorities.
