Description
M88 FOV MODS under the Army's Procurement of W&TCV, aims to provide funding for personnel, engineering design, testing, hardware procurement, and application in support of improvements to resolve problems identified in the field and be approved by the Materiel and Combat Developer for fielded M88 family of vehicles (FOV). These improvements address maintaining operational readiness rates, improving vehicle safety and operation, and integrating new equipment. Modifications include improvements related to engine reliability, automatic fire extinguishing system (AFES), power management system, improved automotive performance related to braking, and special tools delta kits. The specific objectives include enhancing the operational capabilities and safety features of the M88 fleet through targeted modifications.
The program also focuses on realigning funding for the M88 Modification efforts and the 5129G80571 / M88 FOV MODS to 3700GA0570 / Improved Recovery Vehicle (M88A2 HERCULES), starting in FY 2022. This realignment is in accordance with Section 1815 of the FY 2008 National Defense Authorization Act (P.L. 110-181) and is necessary for use by the active and reserve components of the Armed Forces for homeland defense missions, domestic emergency responses, and providing military support to civil authorities. The program's goals include ensuring that resources are efficiently allocated to meet the evolving needs of military operations while adhering to legislative requirements for defense capabilities.
