Description
LCS In-Service Modernization aims to support the modernization and maintenance efforts for Littoral Combat Ships (LCS) to ensure operational readiness and meet mission requirements. The program includes funding for ship changes and improvements related to safety, cyber security remediation, habitability, obsolescence, reliability, command and control, and communications. It also covers planned Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) availabilities and two years of planning costs and long lead time materials in advance of CNO availabilities. Additionally, the program focuses on the procurement and installation of a Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) System specific to combat systems and C4I equipment, as well as back-fitting, upgrading, and addressing obsolescence changes on LCS platforms.
The program also encompasses the procurement and installation of a common Combat Management System (CMS) for both LCS variants - Freedom and Independence - aimed at improving displays, infrastructure, radar, tactical data link, cyber security, and navigation capabilities. The goal is to introduce commonality between LCS variants and other surface combatants by leveraging common source libraries and standard systems to enhance capability, simplify training, and decrease life cycle costs. Additionally, the program includes funding for Third Party Planning, Alteration Installation Team (AIT) installations of Lethality and Survivability Modernization equipment, Combat System Shipboard Qualification Test planning and execution with associated test team, and on-site logistics representatives in support of the LCS Modernization Program. These efforts are crucial in maintaining the LCS Class availabilities for their scheduled modifications by hull and year.
