Description
The Joint Forces Headquarters - Department of Defense Information Network (JFHQ-DODIN) is a crucial part of the Defense Information Systems Agency. It is responsible for the command and control of DODIN Operations and Defensive Cyberspace Operations. The main objective of JFHQ-DODIN is to synchronize the protection of Department of Defense components' capabilities, ensuring power projection and freedom of action across all warfighting domains. This involves managing global engagement requirements and assessing the readiness of the DODIN against mission-critical Combatant Command needs.
In FY 2023, JFHQ-DODIN concentrated on acquiring a Cyber Threat emulation system and tools for inspections across 43 Areas of Operation. Enhancements were also made to the JFHQ-DODIN Operations Center technology, including upgrades to systems like the Joint Worldwide Intelligence Communications System (JWICS), Non-classified Internet Protocol Router Network (NIPR), and Secret Internet Protocol Router Network (SIPR). These improvements aimed to support continuous operations and defensive cyber measures, enabling real-time situation monitoring across the DODIN Joint Operations Area.
The transition to USCYBER Command in FY 2024 led to a significant reduction in activities that were previously planned under JFHQ-DODIN. This shift resulted in the removal of certain initiatives, such as remote Red Team assessments initially planned for execution in FY 2023. These assessments were designed to evaluate cybersecurity service providers' abilities to identify, protect, detect, respond, report, and recover from adversary activities, highlighting vulnerabilities within the DODIN.
JFHQ-DODIN's objectives focus on maintaining a secure and operationally ready defense information network. By ensuring unity of command between USCYBERCOM and subordinate headquarters, as well as unity of effort with other DoD components, JFHQ-DODIN plays a vital role in safeguarding cyberspace operations and enhancing cybersecurity across the Department of Defense's information systems and networks.
