3020F - Missile Procurement, Air Force
Description
The Industrial Preparedness/Pol Prevention program, managed by the Air Force, focuses on ensuring the defense industry's capability to provide reliable and cost-effective systems to operational commanders. This initiative integrates resources from various appropriations, including Aircraft Procurement, Missile Procurement, and Operation and Maintenance. A key aspect of this program is the management and maintenance of Air Force Plant 44 in Tucson, Arizona. This facility plays a crucial role in supporting the production and maintenance of several critical weapon systems such as Storm Breaker, AMRAAM, Javelin, Griffin, Phalanx, Sidewinder, Standard Missiles, Stinger, and Tomahawk.
The program's objectives include capital rehabilitation projects to ensure the plant's operational safety and effectiveness. These projects involve repair and expansion efforts, major capital rehabilitation, construction, demolition, equipment upgrades, property appraisals, and energy conservation measures. The goal is to maintain the plant's capability to meet national missile production needs while ensuring safety and security standards are upheld.
Additionally, the program emphasizes environmental compliance through efforts that involve adhering to federal, state, and local regulatory requirements. This is crucial to prevent risks such as shutdowns due to non-compliance or incurring cleanup costs and penalties. The environmental compliance initiatives also focus on pollution prevention by reducing controlled emissions and minimizing the use of hazardous materials.
Furthermore, funds are allocated for missile-related industrial base assessments aimed at addressing concerns within the missile production sector. These assessments ensure that Air Force Plant 44 continues to be a vital asset for both the Air Force and Navy. By supporting these comprehensive goals and objectives, the Industrial Preparedness/Pol Prevention program seeks to enhance the readiness and sustainability of critical defense infrastructure.
