Description
The Ground Based Anti-Ship Missile (GBASM) program is a key initiative by the Marine Corps to enhance its role in the Naval Expeditionary Force's anti-surface warfare capabilities. Central to this effort is the Navy/Marine Expeditionary Ship Interdiction System (NMESIS), which aims to provide a ground-based anti-access/area denial capability. The program focuses on developing and testing components such as the NSM launcher, ROGUE-Fires carrier, and Weapons Control System. These systems are designed to operate within the adversary's weapons engagement zone, enhancing the persistence and depth of existing anti-ship capabilities.

In FY 2025, NMESIS will continue its development with a focus on Engineer Change Proposals (ECPs) that improve communication, navigation, and product support. Key objectives include completing the integration of Common C4 software for one-to-many fire control and enhancing navigation systems with M-CODE receivers. The program also plans to conduct extensive testing activities, including mobility and environmental tests, to ensure system readiness and effectiveness in various operational scenarios.

The NSM Range Extension project is another critical component of the GBASM initiative, aiming to significantly enhance the range of the Naval Strike Missile over the next five years. Starting in FY 2025, this project will focus on developing new missile modifications, such as a new engine and more energy-dense fuel. These improvements are intended to be integrated into production as they become available, allowing for incremental enhancements in missile performance.

These efforts reflect a strategic push towards modernizing and expanding the Marine Corps' capabilities in surface warfare. By leveraging existing technologies like the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle chassis and integrating advanced missile systems, these programs aim to provide a robust and flexible response to evolving threats in maritime environments.
