3080F - Other Procurement, Air Force
Description
The Fire Fighting/Crash Rescue Vehicles program within the Air Force aims to enhance the safety and operational readiness of airbases by procuring a range of specialized vehicles. These vehicles are crucial for responding to aircraft fire emergencies, structural fires, and hazardous material incidents. The program includes a variety of vehicles such as the P-19 Crash Truck, essential for rapid response to aircraft fires, and the P-21 Aerial Lift Truck, which provides elevated fire fighting capabilities for high-rise structures.
The objectives of this initiative are to ensure that Air Force installations are equipped with state-of-the-art fire fighting and rescue vehicles that meet stringent safety standards. The vehicles procured under this program adhere to performance standards set by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and Air Force safety regulations. This ensures that both active duty and reserve components have the necessary tools for effective homeland defense missions and emergency responses.
In addition to enhancing fire fighting capabilities, the program also focuses on supporting various strategic initiatives such as the European Deterrence Initiative (EDI) and Rapid Airfield Damage Repair (RADR). The procurement process is guided by requirements generated from a priority buy model used in the Planning, Programming, Budgeting, and Execution (PPBE) process. This model considers factors like vehicle depreciation, service life, cumulative sustainment cost, and mission priority to determine procurement quantities.
The Fire Fighting/Crash Rescue Vehicles program is designed to maintain operational effectiveness across Air Force installations by ensuring that personnel have access to reliable and advanced equipment. The program's adaptability allows it to address changing mission priorities and requirements effectively while supporting both domestic emergency responses and military support to civil authorities.
