Family Of Medium Tactical Veh (FMTV)

The Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles (FMTV) program is an Army initiative focused on acquiring trucks and trailers vital for military operations. It aims to support over 55% of the Army's local, line haul, and unit resupply missions across various units. The FMTV includes vehicles like the 4x4 Light Medium Tactical Vehicle (LMTV) and the 6x6 Medium Tactical Vehicle (MTV), each tailored for specific payloads and missions. These vehicles share a common chassis, which helps reduce operational and maintenance costs.

A key goal of the FMTV program is to enhance vehicle capabilities with the A2 model, supporting the Long Term Armoring Strategy (LTAS). This model offers adaptable armor protection, increased payload capacity, improved mobility, and enhanced safety features. Upgrades include higher capacity suspension systems, expanded data buses, electronic stability control, and increased engine power. These improvements ensure adaptability to evolving mission requirements and threats while maintaining efficiency.

The FMTV program aligns with broader Army modernization efforts such as the Command Post Integrated Infrastructure (CPI2) initiative. This initiative seeks to improve command post mobility, survivability, and suitability in various environments. Additionally, the FMTV supports other Army systems like Integrated Air & Missile Defense (IAMS), Warfighter Information Network - Tactical (WIN-T), and High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS). By integrating these systems onto the FMTV platform, the Army aims to enhance its operational capabilities.

For FY 2025 procurement objectives, the program plans to acquire armor-capable light and medium tactical vehicle trucks and trailers. This acquisition supports Army modernization goals and CPI2 requirements by fulfilling modularity needs and addressing potential operational deficiencies. The strategy includes contractor logistics support for vehicle fielding through FY25 to ensure these vehicles remain service-ready for military applications.
