Description
The F-35C Continuous Capability Development and Delivery (C2D2) program is designed to enhance the capabilities of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter for the United States Navy. It focuses on developing and integrating new technologies to maintain air superiority against evolving threats. Key objectives include upgrading mission systems, propulsion, combat data systems, and training systems to support the operational effectiveness of the F-35. The program also emphasizes international collaboration, with several partner countries involved in modernization efforts.
Within the F-35C C2D2 program, the Utility and Subsystem Support to Mission Systems project is dedicated to enhancing the aircraft's cooling and power management systems. This initiative addresses increased thermal loads from new mission system requirements by upgrading the Power Thermal Management System (PTMS) and Fuel Thermal Management System (FTMS). The project involves nonrecurring engineering efforts to develop, test, and certify these upgrades, ensuring future capabilities can be supported without compromising performance.
The Air Vehicle - Technology Refresh 3 (TR-3) project focuses on updating critical components of the F-35's avionics suite. This includes developing a new Integrated Core Processor (ICP), Aircraft Memory System (AMS), and Panoramic Cockpit Display Electronics Unit (PCD-EU). These upgrades are essential for supporting Block 4 capabilities and ensuring long-term viability for future enhancements. The TR-3 project aims to complete system integration, testing, and certification to enable fleet fielding of these advanced technologies.
The Test and Evaluation (T&E) project supports integrated testing activities necessary for validating new capabilities under the C2D2 strategy. This includes developmental and operational testing at various sites to ensure that upgrades meet program requirements in an operationally representative environment. T&E efforts involve flight tests, ground tests, simulation infrastructure improvements, and support for mission planning software development. These activities are crucial for maintaining the F-35's readiness and effectiveness in addressing current and future threats.
