Description
The F-16 program within the Air Force is dedicated to ensuring the operational readiness and support capability of the F-16 fleet, especially considering current Foreign Military Sales (FMS) orders. This involves support for equipment, facilities, interim contractor services, and management of production tooling storage, alongside activities related to production shutdown.
A primary focus is on maintaining and acquiring deferred peculiar ground support equipment and training tools essential for mission readiness. The program also backs interim contract services for various F-16 modification programs. These include upgrades like the Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA), Modular Mission Computer/Programmable Display Generator (MMC/PDG), and Secure Mission Data Systems (SMDS). Such enhancements are vital for keeping the aircraft technologically advanced and capable of meeting modern combat requirements.
The Production Tooling Storage Management contract is another significant aspect of the F-16 program. This contract ensures that specialized engineering services are available to support fleet capabilities during and after production line activities. Essential tooling required for manufacturing spares or supporting aircraft modifications is stored by the U.S. Government, preventing costly and time-consuming reproduction if lost. Collaboration with Lexes Inc. and Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Inc. focuses on managing the Electronic Tool Inventory Management System (eTIMS) and handling unique manufacturing equipment.
Additionally, efforts may address Diminishing Manufacturing Sources (DMS) issues to ensure critical components remain available despite changes in manufacturing capabilities or supplier availability. This proactive approach helps mitigate risks associated with parts obsolescence, thereby sustaining the operational effectiveness of the F-16 fleet over time.
