Description
F-16 under the Air Force's Aircraft Procurement budget activity, aims to maintain and upgrade the F-16 fleet to ensure its readiness and capability in both air-to-surface and air-to-air mission areas. The program supports the National Defense Strategy (NDS) by providing 41% of the USAF's fighter fleet at high readiness rates and low operating costs. Additionally, it strengthens alliances through the DoD's largest Foreign Military Sales program, serving over 28 countries. The specific modifications budgeted and programmed include upgrades to the F-16 platform, such as the F-16 Maintenance Training Device (MTD) simulators and Digital Radar Warning Receiver (DRWR) sub-program Integrated Viper Electronic Warfare Suite (IVEWS).
The funding for Program F-16 directly aligns with the NDS by enabling the delivery of joint lethality in contested environments in the coming decades. It also supports homeland defense missions, domestic emergency responses, and providing military support to civil authorities as mandated by Section 1815 of the FY 2008 National Defense Authorization Act. The budgeted modifications cover a wide range of capabilities improvements including Aggressors Update, HFLCC AGCAS, M-Code, IVEWS, CDU, Heads-Up Display (HUD), Anti Jam, Missile Warning Systems, Link 16 Crypto, MIDS-JTRS, AESA Radars, Digital Radar Warning Receiver (RWR), AETC MTD Upgrades-Field Training Detachments, F-16 Training Systems, Full Combat Mission Training, and Low Cost Modifications.
