Description
The Distributed Training and Exercises initiative, part of the Air Force's Research, Development, Test & Evaluation efforts, is designed to enhance wargaming capabilities. It focuses on developing and integrating advanced modeling and simulation tools to support the Chief of Staff of the Air Force's Title 10 wargaming efforts. These efforts are crucial for testing concepts, capabilities, and plans through simulation techniques. The program aims to institutionalize wargaming across the Department of the Air Force to promote strategic innovation and efficient resource use.

A primary goal is to refine the Wargame Information Environment (WIE), a platform for virtual battlespace collaboration and decision-making. Supported by GameNet, a deployable local area network, it facilitates three-dimensional visualizations and mapping. By incorporating advanced technologies from both commercial and government-developed software, the initiative seeks to improve the effectiveness of wargames in shaping investment strategies and developing concepts for future conflict scenarios.

The program also emphasizes developing Joint Concept Development & Experimentation (JCD&E) tools to create realistic scenarios for synthetic environments. These tools provide data-driven insights into alternative force structures and capabilities for various wargames and mini-wargames. Through workshops and post-game assessments, the program ensures accurate representation of Air Force interests in joint service wargames.

Furthermore, the Distributed Training and Exercises initiative adopts an evolutionary acquisition approach to adapt to evolving requirements. Contract support is vital due to the specialized expertise needed for wargame development, which is not available within existing Air Force resources. This approach allows flexibility in addressing new challenges while maintaining a focus on achieving strategic objectives efficiently.
