Description

The CTG, 30mm, All Types program is a comprehensive Army ammunition procurement line item designed to supply a range of 30mm cartridges for both combat and training purposes. The FY 2026 budget request supports critical Army Title 10 war reserve, operational, training, and test requirements in accordance with DoD Instruction 3000.04 and AR 5-13. The program ensures readiness for OSD-approved Combatant Commander Operational Plans, Homeland Defense, and other directed missions. It also supports individual and collective training for Active and Reserve Component forces. The base procurement funds the acquisition of cartridges across multiple types and purposes.

The CTG, 30MM TP-T (M1173 Target Practice with Trace) is a training-unique item not used in combat, intended to provide realistic, cost-effective training by ballistically matching the tactical round. The FY 2026 request supports procurement of cartridges for annual training and depot-level stock. Production is managed by Northrop Grumman Systems Corp, with a production ramp-up to meet Total Munitions Requirements (TMR).

The CTG, 30MM HEAB-T (XM1182 High Explosive Airburst with Trace) is a war reserve item used in combat, designed to enhance anti-personnel lethality and counter-defilade capability for Stryker Infantry Carrier Vehicles and other platforms equipped with 30x173mm weapon systems. The FY 2026 request builds war reserve inventory. This item is not yet approved for service use and is produced by Northrop Grumman Systems Corp.

The CTG, 30MM TPDS-T (XM1172 Target Practice Discarding Sabot with Trace) is another training-unique cartridge, ballistically matched to the tactical XM1170 APFSDS-T round. The FY 2026 request supports annual training and depot-level requirements. Production is handled by General Dynamics Ordnance & Tactical Systems.

The CTG, 30MM APFSDS-T (XM1170 Armor Piercing Fin Stabilized Discarding Sabot with Trace) is a new start for FY 2026, providing organic direct fire capability and improved lethality against light-to-medium armored vehicles. The request is intended to build war reserve inventory, with production managed by General Dynamics Ordnance & Tactical Systems.

The CTG, 30MM HEDP (M789 High Explosive Dual Purpose and XM1198 HEDP-SD) includes both the qualified combat cartridge for the Apache Helicopter's M230 Chain Gun and a self-destruct variant for MLIDS and IM-SHORAD platforms. The FY 2026 request supports war reserve inventory. These rounds provide both anti-personnel and anti-materiel capabilities, with production split between Northrop Grumman and General Dynamics.

The CTG, 30MM TP (M788 Target Practice and XM950 Target Practice) supports training for Apache and Blackhawk helicopters, as well as MLIDS and IM-SHORAD ground vehicles. The FY 2026 request reflects increased procurement to meet training requirements. Production is shared between Northrop Grumman and General Dynamics.

The CARTRIDGE, 30MM HIGH EXPLOSIVE PROXIMITY (XM1211 HEP) is a war reserve item designed for MLIDS and MADIS platforms, featuring a proximity module and self-destruct capability to reduce collateral damage when engaging aerial targets. The FY 2026 request supports war reserve inventory, with production managed by Northrop Grumman.

The CTG, 30MM C-UAS HE PROXIMITY FUSE (XM1225 Aviation Proximity Explosive) is a new start for FY 2026, supporting engineering for items in production and designed for counter-unmanned aerial systems (C-UAS) applications in Apache helicopters.
