Description
The Computer Ballistics: LHMBC XM32 program aims to enhance the capabilities of the Army's mortar units through advanced technology. The primary goal is to procure and integrate the Lightweight Handheld Mortar Ballistic Computer (LHMBC) systems. These systems are designed to provide precise ballistic solutions for 60mm, 81mm, and 120mm mortar weapon systems. They aim to improve accuracy and efficiency by digitally connecting to the Fire Support Network via the Single Channel Ground and Airborne Radio System (SINCGARS), eliminating the need for traditional paper firing tables.

The objectives include ensuring seamless integration with existing and future Army platforms through a common software and hardware architecture. This integration is facilitated by compliance with the Common Operating Environment (COE) standards, allowing compatibility with various devices such as the Ruggedized Tactical Handheld Device (RTHD) and Net Warrior Mobile/Handheld End User Devices. By addressing obsolescence issues, the program seeks to modernize both mounted and dismounted mortar weapon systems and fire control systems.

In fiscal year 2025, plans include procuring LHMBC M32A2 systems, supported by financial resources for hardware, software components, and Basic Issue Items necessary for operational deployment. Additionally, previous allocations in fiscal year 2023 included emergency supplemental resources to replace LHMBC systems transferred to Ukraine as part of international efforts against Russian aggression.

The program is committed to enhancing tactical surveillance capabilities within Army mortar units by leveraging digital advancements in fire direction and coordination. The focus on interoperability and modernization ensures that these systems remain effective in diverse operational environments while supporting broader defense objectives.
