AMRAAM

AMRAAM is a joint Air Force/Navy, Acquisition Category 1D program with the Air Force as the lead service. The program aims to procure 374 Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM) in FY 2024 to support warfighter requirements. The missiles are designed to provide improved capabilities against very low and high-altitude targets in an electronic attack environment. The FY 2024 budget request also includes funding for test and technical production support, procurement of training equipment, and resolution of production issues to preserve future production capabilities and capacities. Additionally, the Department of Defense is initiating a Multiyear Procurement (MYP) strategy for AMRAAM to generate efficiencies and lower unit costs through concurrent and overlapping multiyear strategies.

The specific objectives of Program 2206 include procuring the maximum quantity of AMRAAM missiles with the provided funding in accordance with Title 10, US Code Section 2308 BUY-TO-BUDGET ACQUISITION due to critically low inventories. The program also aims to resolve production issues such as Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Material Shortages, obsolescence issues, studies, bridge buys, life of type buys, supplier/parts replacement, and qualification activities to preserve future production capabilities and capacities. Furthermore, the program seeks to leverage a Multiyear Procurement (MYP) strategy to execute a concurrent and overlapping multiyear approach for greater production capacity, accelerated delivery, and lower unit costs through synergies in production across different but related programs.
