Description
The AMBIT - Post-Auctioned SRF program, managed by the Air Force, addresses challenges related to relocating or sharing electromagnetic spectrum frequencies. These frequencies, previously allocated for Department of Defense (DoD) use, have been auctioned to the commercial sector. The initiative's primary goal is to ensure that the DoD can continue its operations without disruption by efficiently managing the transition from these auctioned frequencies. This involves covering costs associated with relocating or sharing spectrum resources.
This program falls under the System Development and Demonstration (SDD) category, having passed Milestone B approval. It is currently engaged in engineering and manufacturing development tasks aimed at meeting validated requirements before moving to full-rate production. The focus is on ensuring that the necessary technological and logistical frameworks are in place to support DoD operations in light of these frequency reallocations. This effort is crucial for maintaining operational readiness and minimizing any potential impact on defense communications and systems.
In fiscal year 2023, a significant allocation was made to support these relocation efforts, emphasizing the importance of this transition phase. However, no additional funding has been requested for fiscal years 2024 and 2025, indicating that the primary activities were concentrated in the initial phase. The program's strategy involves collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure a seamless transition while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements and operational standards.
AMBIT - Post-Auctioned SRF represents a strategic approach by the Air Force to adapt to changes in spectrum allocation while safeguarding national security interests. By effectively managing this transition, the program aims to uphold the integrity and functionality of defense communication systems amidst evolving technological landscapes and commercial pressures.
