Description
The AEGIS BMD program, managed by the Missile Defense Agency, is focused on enhancing the United States' ballistic missile defense capabilities. It aims to advance the Aegis Weapon System and Standard Missile infrastructures to provide a mobile and forward-deployable capability for detecting, tracking, and intercepting ballistic missiles of various ranges. This includes upgrades to the Aegis BMD Weapon System and the SM-3 missile configuration to improve defense against longer-range threats and support an enduring Aegis Ashore defensive capability.

A key objective of the program is developing software configurations for the Aegis portion of the Defense of Guam (DoG). This involves integrating land-based radar configurations and enhancing capabilities against advanced ballistic threats. The program also emphasizes improving threat discrimination within the Missile Defense System, aiming to increase effectiveness against evolving adversary threats by enhancing reentry vehicle discrimination and interceptor inventory efficiency. These improvements are supported through various program elements such as Enabling, Midcourse, BMD Sensors, Command and Control, Battle Management, Communications, and Aegis BMD.

The program's goals include completing development and certification of Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) 6.0. It aligns with the Missile Defense Agency's modeling and simulation needs while integrating new capabilities into the Weapon System. Additionally, it supports ongoing system engineering efforts for requirements development, engineering analysis, capability integration, performance verification for Aegis BMD development, and overall Missile Defense System integration. The focus also includes technology design and insertion to ensure consistent application of technical standards across the Aegis BMD program.

The AEGIS BMD program seeks to advance missile defense capabilities through continuous software updates, system integration efforts, threat space expansion studies, and infrastructure enhancements at test sites. These efforts are crucial for maintaining effective defense against increasingly complex threats while supporting operational readiness through rigorous testing and validation processes.
