Description
Weapons and Munitions - Eng Dev is focused on advancing the Army's capabilities through engineering development and demonstration projects. One key project, Mortar Systems, aims to enhance mortar weapon and fire control systems by integrating new technologies. This includes developing remote mortar turrets, high-pressure capable cannons, and lightweight components for improved performance. Additionally, the project updates fire control software to support modularity and integration with existing platforms.

The 155mm Artillery Propulsion XM654 project supports the Army's Cannon Modernization Strategy by developing a Supercharge propelling charge for extended range artillery systems. This initiative seeks to achieve maximum range requirements beyond 50 kilometers using advanced artillery propellant technologies. Efforts will focus on improving propellant formulations, conducting testing, and developing necessary components for extended range capabilities.

Next Generation Combat Vehicle Ammunition is another critical project that focuses on developing a family of 50x228mm ammunition for the XM30 Mechanized Infantry Combat Vehicle. This effort includes creating target practice, armor-piercing, and high-explosive airburst rounds to enhance lethality against various threats. The project operates under Middle Tier Acquisition authority to rapidly prototype these munitions in line with the Next Generation Combat Vehicle Cross Functional Team's timeline.

Precision Munition (Sniper) aims to integrate advanced lethality technologies into sniper ammunition, enhancing performance across anti-materiel, improved performance, and subsonic capabilities. The project will initiate Engineering and Manufacturing Development activities to develop prototypes and conduct user evaluations for the .338 Anti-Materiel cartridges. These efforts are designed to improve sniper effectiveness at greater distances while maintaining low sound signatures for increased survivability.
